The museum is dedicated to the life and work of Aggeliki Chatzimichali, Greece’s first folklore expert. The mansion is located in the heart Plaka, the historical neighborhood of Athens. The building was originally designed and built as Aggeliki Chatzimichali’s residence by Aristotle Zachos one of the most significant Greek architects well renowned for his influences from byzantine and traditional Greek architecture. The building itself is listed. Since the early 80’s the building operates as a museum.

The refurbished museum areas include the ground floor dedicated to temporary exhibition and the museum’s shop. The three upper floors house the permanent museum’s exhibition. The lighting interventions are kept to minimum respecting the historical fabric whilst creating the proper accents and ambiance for the museological narrative.

The lighting scheme, along with the exhibition areas includes the illumination of the listed facade and the garden.
