Renovation 2019 – Unrealised
Lighting design for a semi-outdoor dining area that works both as an interior and as an exterior space according to season. Design of custom lighting structures. Dionysos Zonars is an all-time-classic restaurant in an iconic building of the Athenian post-war modern architecture, located in the heart of the historic centre of Athens, under the Acropolis. The lighting proposal refers to a semi-outdoor dining area of the restaurant, that works according to season both as an interior and as an exterior space. The space transform from indoor to outdoor by opening the fully glazed partitions and sliding the retractable folding cloth of the roof. The area is dominated by the breathtaking views to the Acropolis.

Key design objective is to provide a visually controlled environment free of glare and glazing reflections to admire the immaculate monument whilst adding warmth, clarity and intimacy to the dining experience. The elements used to establish the visual reference to the interior is the rhythm of the fibre optics points of the ceiling and the extra lavender hue that ads warmth to facial rendering and vibrance to the white finishes. These lighting elements have been integrated in a custom designed lighting system that adapts to the existing ceiling structure and technically withstands outdoor exposure.
